Find out where you signed up first
This is the step most cancellation guides skip, but it determines everything else. Sign in at my.nordaccount.com and check your billing history. The receipt will say one of: NordVPN (direct web purchase), App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), or Apple TV. Each path is different.
Method 1: Cancel a web purchase (nordvpn.com sign-up)
- Sign in at my.nordaccount.com.
- Go to Billing → Subscriptions.
- Click Manage next to your active plan.
- Click Cancel auto-renewal (sometimes labeled "Turn off auto-renewal").
- Confirm the cancellation. You'll keep service until the end of your current paid term, then it stops.
Turning off auto-renewal does NOT immediately end the service or trigger a refund. If you want a refund (and you're within the 30-day window), go to the next section.
Method 2: Request a refund (web purchases, within 30 days)
- Open nordvpn.com/contact-us.
- Start a live chat. Avoid the email form; live chat is significantly faster (typically 5 to 15 minutes vs 24 to 48 hours by email).
- State plainly: "I'd like to cancel my subscription and request a refund under the 30-day money-back guarantee." No reason is required, though they will ask if there's a specific issue.
- Provide your account email and the order number from your receipt.
- The agent will process the refund. You'll get an email confirmation immediately, and the funds will return to your original payment method in 5 to 10 business days.
The 30-day clock starts at the date of your first payment, not when you started using the service. If your renewal payment just hit and you didn't realize, you have 30 days from that renewal date to request the refund. Crypto and some regional payment methods are excluded from the refund policy.
Method 3: Cancel via Apple App Store (iOS)
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your Apple ID at the top, then Subscriptions.
- Find NordVPN in the list. Tap it.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. Confirm.
NordVPN cannot cancel App Store subscriptions on your behalf. Refunds for App Store purchases go through Apple, not NordVPN. Open the App Store receipt email from Apple and click "Report a Problem" to request a refund from Apple. Apple grants App Store refunds at their discretion; they're less generous than NordVPN's direct 30-day policy.
Method 4: Cancel via Google Play Store (Android)
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon (top right), then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Tap NordVPN, then Cancel subscription.
- Follow the prompts and confirm.
For refund on a Google Play purchase, you have 48 hours from the original purchase via Google Play's automated refund flow. After 48 hours, you'd have to contact Google Play support and explain the situation, and refunds are not guaranteed.
Method 5: Cancel via Apple TV
- Open Settings on your Apple TV.
- Go to Users and Accounts → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions.
- Select NordVPN, then Cancel Subscription.
Same refund constraints as the iOS App Store: refunds go through Apple, not NordVPN.
What if I just want to delete my account entirely?
Cancelling the subscription leaves your account active (no charges, just inactive subscription). To fully delete the account: in NordAccount dashboard, go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account data after a 14-day grace period. You cannot undo this once the grace period ends. If you have other Nord products (NordPass, NordLocker) on the same account, deleting the account deletes those too.
Common pitfalls
- "I cancelled but I was still charged." Almost always means auto-renewal was turned off after the renewal already processed. Check the date on the cancellation email vs the charge date. If the charge predates the cancellation, contact support immediately to request the refund.
- "NordVPN says they can't refund me." Means the purchase was via App Store, Play Store, or Apple TV, not the web. You need to refund through those channels.
- "I cancelled but the app still works." Cancellation doesn't immediately disconnect you. Service continues until the end of your paid term.
- Auto-renewal disabled, then re-enabled on next sign-in. This was a bug pattern reported in 2024 that NordVPN has since fixed, but worth double-checking your subscriptions page a few days after cancellation.
