Dashlane includes several features that competitors lack:

• Built-in VPN: Powered by Hotspot Shield with unlimited data on Premium plans. Useful for encrypting traffic on public Wi-Fi without installing a separate VPN app.
• Dark web monitoring: Dashlane scans dark web databases for your email addresses, usernames, and personal information. If your data appears in a breach, you receive an alert with steps to secure the affected account.
• Automatic password changer: For supported websites, Dashlane can automatically log in and change your password to a strong generated one with a single click. This works with about 50 popular sites including Reddit, Amazon, and Slack.
• Phishing alerts: When you visit a site that looks like a known website but has a different URL (a common phishing technique), Dashlane warns you before auto-filling credentials.
• Passkey management: Full support for creating, storing, and using passkeys across all your devices.

Dashlane moved to a web-first architecture in 2022, eliminating native desktop apps. All interactions happen through browser extensions (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and the web vault. The browser extension handles auto-fill, password generation, and quick access to vault items. The web vault provides full management capabilities including importing, sharing, and security dashboard.

Auto-fill accuracy in our tests was 96%, slightly below 1Password (98%) but above Bitwarden (95%). The extension detects login forms reliably and offers to save new credentials automatically. The password generator produces strong passwords with customizable length, character types, and pronounceability.

The mobile apps on Android and iOS are well-designed with biometric unlock, system auto-fill integration, and offline access to your vault. The Android app includes auto-fill for apps (not just browsers), which is useful for logging into mobile banking or social media apps.

The main drawback of the web-first approach is that you need a browser running to access your passwords. If your browser crashes or you need a password for a non-browser application, you must open a browser first. Users who prefer standalone desktop apps should consider 1Password or Bitwarden.

• Users who want an all-in-one tool: The built-in VPN and dark web monitoring eliminate the need for separate subscriptions. If you would pay for these services anyway, Dashlane offers consolidated value.
• Security-conscious non-technical users: The security dashboard, automatic password changer, and phishing alerts guide you toward better security practices without requiring technical knowledge.
• Business teams: Dashlane's business plan ($8/user/month) includes admin console, directory integration (Azure AD, Okta), group-based sharing, and activity logs.

Dashlane is not ideal if you want a free plan (too limited), need a desktop app (browser-only), or are on a tight budget. For budget options, Bitwarden at $10/year is hard to beat.
